If you make certain subassemblies to stock that have lots of parts, then it can be tedious to make a WO with the subassembly as a child. The WO BOM exploder will explode all the children. Since you will be picking the already completed assembly, you would need to delete allthe children.
However, if you set the assembly to "mfgd (not exploded)", then the BOM exploder will not explode the children.
Many of our customers maintain the BOM for a subassembly (say circuit board), but have a contract manufacturer do the assembly. Thus, they need the BOM , but do not need it for their internal final assembly work orders
